AN ART NOUVEAU VITRINE ATTR JOAN BUSQUETS I JANE

4: AN ART NOUVEAU VITRINE ATTR JOAN BUSQUETS I JANE

Joan Busquets I Jane (Spain 1874-1949)
(1900 - 1910)
The rare and important example of Catalan 'Modernisme' is attributed to the designer and architect Joan Busquets I Jane of Barcelona, Spain and clearly related to the influential art and design movements referred to as Art Nouveau in France, Jugendstil in Germany, and, to a lesser degree, Vienna Secession in Austria-Hungary at the turn of the 20th century. This rosewood example with flattened top over central asymmetrical beveled glass door centered by a cartouche having hand painted florals on gold is flanked by crescent-shaped side cabinets above open shelving backed by rich bird's eye type burl veneers, all raised on elegant sinuous downswept curvilinear framework, the whole is embellished in carved details and gilt highlights.

The Gaudí House Museum in Barcelona, Spain maintains an example of this same form finished completely in gilt surface attributed to Joan Busquets.
Measures 76.5 x 43.5 x 15 inches.
Very good original condition. There are no issues of major scratches, losses, repairs, in-painting or touch-up with the exception of possibly some gilding which may be re-touched. There are some examples of age separation at wood joints. Very sturdy and intact overall.
