RARE C.W. PARKER BRASS-PLATED SHOOTING GALLERY TARGET

39: RARE C.W. PARKER BRASS-PLATED SHOOTING GALLERY TARGET

This rare variation of a scarcely seen animated iron target by C.W. Parker is important for its condition (the only other versions found on the market had damage) and its rare variation of brass and copper plating. No other plated versions could be found. Typically, shooting gallery targets from the early 1900s were painted. This example retains what is presumed to be its original brass plating on the body and a copper finish on the outset heart. A direct hit to the protruding heart would release the back side mechanism and drop the head back (see image 8).

Signed 'Manufactured by CW Parker Abilene Kansas 9' in cast letters back side, 9B on the neck and and 9P on the mechanism.

C.W. Parker left Abilene in 1911 to set up operations in Leavenworth, Kansas.

This target is illustrated in Parker's Catalog of Shooting Galleries, Gallery No. 1 on page 3 and Gallery No. 33 on page 28.
Measures 13 x 13.25 x 3 inches.
Very good condition throughout, no damage, repair or heavy wear.
