AN EARLY 20TH C. 'PANCHO VILLA' SHOOTING GALLERY TARGET

40: AN EARLY 20TH C. 'PANCHO VILLA' SHOOTING GALLERY TARGET

The figural cast iron target, cast in very good detail and attributed to maker Emil Hoffmann of Chicago, is illustrated in the company's circa 1912 catalogs as Mexican Head-Illuminated Eye Target. Pancho Villa escaped prison and fled to El Paso on Christmas day of that same year.

While the catalog lists this example as 'illuminated eye', the target up for bid here has eye openings backed by a circular iron gong. A shot through the eye would ring the gong.
Measures 20.5 x 15.25 x 6.25 inches.
Very good condition as shown.
