73: A VERY RARE J. DIXON CRUCIBLE CO 1885 PENCIL SHARPENER

One of the rarest of all commercially made pencil sharpeners, the Lamson hand crank cast iron Pencil Sharpener was manufactured by Joseph Dixon, the J. Dixon Crucible Company, and patented May 12, 1885 as stamped on the maker's plaque one side. The opposite side is lettered Use Dixon's American Graphite Pencils in the casting.
Measures 5.5 x 6 x 4 inches.
Very good condition, noting the sharpening bit is a very well made replacement, otherwise ll original finish with hand painted flourishes and pin stripe decoration on original Japanned finish, original wood base.
