A REVERSE PAINTED BILLIARDS HALL & BARBER SHOP SIGN

72: A REVERSE PAINTED BILLIARDS HALL & BARBER SHOP SIGN

The early 1900s door insert in four colors with gilt outline in reverse on glass advertising Billiards and Barber Shop was pictured in Pool and Billiard Collectibles by Mark and Connie Stellinga, published by Schiffer Books, 2003. Pictured on page 124, the description attributes the origin of this piece to a business on Wabash Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. The work is signed Jas. D. Ahern Company in gilt lettering along the bottom of the black field.

A Chicago firm of the same name states the following on their web site: Ahern Jas D & Company Signs was founded in 1914 as a family-owned business and premier sign provider and installer in the Chicago area.
Overall framed size measures 34.5 x 25.5 inches.
Very good condition. There are no chips, cracks, repairs, noticeable scratches or areas of repaint. The frame is contemporary.
