Ron Slowinski (1932-2023)
Mesa (1978)
This canvas is signed and dated verso.
Ron Slowinski produced several distinct series of related works during his career. This painting from his Pollen series demonstrates the artist's skill at creating a seemingly woven fabric-like texture with the illusion of floating touches and random patterns in unique colors and shades, with a play of light that altogether gives a pensive elegance.Ron earned a certificate in painting from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1954 and had his first one person show in 1957 at the famed Wells St. Gallery. This newly established avant-garde exhibition space was founded by, and showcased the works of, some of the city's youngest and most advanced abstractionists of the time. Artists including Robert Natkin and John Chamberlain. Ron considered those post-war years in Chicago, where he worked solely at making art, to be his equivalent of grad school. He would go on to teach at the Kansas City Art Institute for 39 years and participate in more than 60 exhibitions of his work, 25 or more being one person shows.
