Minna Citron was a New York artist whose career evolved from satirical Social Realism to experimental abstraction. A student of Kenneth Hayes Miller at the Art Students League, she gained early recognition in the 1930s for her feminist-leaning prints and paintings, as seen here. Her Feminanities series critiqued gender roles and satirized women's place in society.
Under the WPA, she was a rare female muralist and contributed to the broader American Scene movement with her accomplishments.
Her work is held in major institutions including MoMA, the Whitney, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
She is being increasingly recognized for her contributions to feminist modernism and American print innovation.
