Ted Hawkins was a Kansas-born artist raised near Rock and later in Winfield, Kansas, He began his formal art education at the Wichita Art Association in 1931 under William Dickerson, a founding figure of the Prairie Print Makers. He continued his studies at the Minneapolis School of Art, graduating in 1935. Hawkins worked as a freelance artist and art director before joining the McCormick-Armstrong Printing Company in Wichita in 1939. He also contributed to the Federal Art Project and taught at the Wichita Art Association. Hawkins was a master of the aquatint technique and as a member of the Prairie Print Makers his 1951 image Sleepy Afternoon was selected as the society's annual presentation print.
Sight size measures 23.75 x 18 with a framed size of 34.25H x 27.75W x 2.75D inches.
The condition is very good, very clean, intact, no visible stain, damage, repair, punctures or tears. This work has not been examined outside the frame.
Provenance: Large and varied collection, North Kansas City, Missouri.
