The glowing, ethereal small format work in the dimensions of a Salmagundi Thumb-box Exhibition entry is signed lower right.
Charles Chapman studied at at the Pratt Institute and under William Merritt Chase and Walter Appleton Clark at the Chase School of Art. By the early 1900s, he was teaching at the Art Students League, and later partnered with Harvey Dunn to establish an illustration school in New Jersey. He exhibited with the Salmagundi Club and was a member of the National Academy of Design where he was elected full Academician in 1926.
His works are held in the Metropolitan Museum, National Gallery of Art, and Smithsonian American Art Museum.
Sight size measures 9.25 x 9.25with a framed size of 12.75H x 12.75W inches.
Very good original condition. There are no issues of scratches, losses, repairs, in-painting or touch-up.
