Joe Arnold earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia in 1977. Upon returning to Wyoming in 1980, he became involved in the Wyoming artist-in-residence program and served as the curator for the Ann Simpson Artmobile Program, bringing art to schools across the state. He is known for his plein air paintings executed at high elevations, often from mountain summits like the work up for a bid here.
He has participated in numerous exhibitions, such as the Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale in Cody, Wyoming, and has been featured in solo shows across the region.
His paintings are held in various prestigious collections, such as the University of Wyoming Art Museum, the Governor's Mansion in Cheyenne, and the Malcolm Forbes Collection . His work has been featured in publications like Southwest Art and Alpinist Magazine.
He also produced a short film titled Plein-air In Thin Air, which won Best Wyoming Short at the 307 Film Festival in 2018.
Hayden Valley is a prominent sub-alpine valley located in the heart of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.
