Untitled Apocalyptic Landscape (Circa 1950)
The oil on artist's board, suggestive of a cataclysmic landscape, is signed lower right front.

Around the time this was painted, the belief was that a nuclear blast would spur tornadoes.

The artist Wayne DuQuoin was a painter, watercolorist, graphic artist, and commercial artist born in Greenview, Illinois. After high school, he worked as a commercial designer in Cheyenne, Wyoming, before moving to Kansas City in 1940. He graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in commercial design. In Kansas City, he met his wife, the sculptor-ceramicist Eleanor DuQuoin, and they married in 1943. After graduating, both were hired as instructors at KCAI. Over his 22-year tenure at the Kansas City Art Institute, DuQuoin taught commercial, advertising, and graphic design, and he eventually became the head of the Design Department.
