198: A FORT BELKNAP BEADED AND QUILLED HIDE TOBACCO BAG

A Mandan, Hidatsa or Arikara attributed bag with glass beads, dyed porcupine quill in multiple colors, lane stitched glass and faceted cut beads, metal cones, dyed feather tufts, upper and fringe and quill wrapped thongs of commercial leather that appears more recent than the quilled and beaded panels.
Measures 38.5 x 7.25 inches including the fringe.
Very good condition, no bead loss, no tears or holes, bits of quill loss on the upper drops, the lower quilled area with 20% quill loss, supple fringe.
Provenance: The estate of a Wyoming collector.
