The nice, large example by this artist known for small format works depicts a dramatic sky over a compressed horizon line. The work is signed lower right front. Titled verso with a Wichita Art Museum ''The Kansas Landscape'' exhibition label.

David Melby was born in Wichita, Kansas in 1942. He earned a BFA from Wichita State University in 1967, followed by an MFA from the University of Nebraska in 1970. He pursued further studies at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel, Mexico. As a working artist, he is most associated with Leavenworth, Kansas where he taught art classes as a a volunteer at the Federal Penitentiary there.
Overall framed size measures 18.5 x 24.5 inches.
Very good original untouched condition. There are no issues of major scratches, losses, repairs, in-painting or touch-up.
