Signed lower left, dedication verso reads ''To Joe, Merry Xmas 1934, Clarence E. Shepard.'' There is no evidence this artist painted beyond the Midwest, meaning this could be a view in the Missouri Ozarks. According to AskArt.com, Clarence Shephard established an architecture practice and designed more than 600 homes in Kansas City, including Prairie School landmarks like the Judge Louis R. Gates House. Shepard later taught at the Kansas City Art Institute, served as president of the Kansas City Society of Artists, and held solo exhibitions of his paintings.
Board measures 14 x 17 with a framed size of 18 x 21 inches.
Very good untouched condition. There are no issues of scratches, losses, repairs, in-painting or touch-up to any degree.
