262: PETER HURD (1904-1984) TRIAL STATE SIGNED LITHOGRAPH
Peter Hurd (1904-1984)
A Ranch Headquarters near Picacho (1936)
The trial proof lithograph is signed by the artist in pencil below the image lower right and titled lower left. No information on a published edition of this image could be found and no other examples are known to exist. A painting form 1945 titled Picacho Valley, Chávez Ranch, picturing a ranch near the Picacho peak, is in the collection of the Blanton Museum of Art.
Listed as Plate XXXIV in the artist's catalog raisonné Peter Hurd - The Lithographs (1968). Hurd's comments read: ''This lithograph was experimental. In it I used transfer paper for the drawing which allowed me to make a true to life drawing without reversing the drawing. However, the coarse grain and lack of subtly made me lose interest in this technique.''
Image measures 8.5 x 12.25 with a framed size of 17 x 20.5 inches.
Apparently the condition is very good, very clean, intact, no visible stain, damage, repair, punctures or tears. This work has not been examined outside the frame.
