68: MARLIN ROTACH (BORN 1952) WATERCOLOR
Richard Marlin Rotach (Kansas City, Born 1952)
Untitled (Stargazer Lilies) (Late 20th Century)
The luminous study of stargazer lilies in the sun, depicted in the artist's unique brand of realism, is signed lower right front with the watercolor society membership designations of NWS and WHS.
On his website, Marlin writes, 'Since light is the main focus of my paintings, the entire physical world is potential subject matter.' That insight into the role of light in Rotach's paintings changes what one sees when encountering his work. We're drawn to them because they're beautiful and striking, but we might not initially realize why. Marlin's skill isn't just in depicting a flower or an object or a landscape, but in masterfully capturing the way light defines it. In those ways, the subject of this painting is light itself.
Not surprisingly, Marlin Rotach is a signature member in nine watercolor societies, including the Transparent Watercolor Society of America, National Watercolor Society, Watercolor U.S.A. Honor Society, and others. He has won more than 11 Best-in-Show awards and his work has been featured in Cowboys & Indians, Southwest Art, International Artist Magazine, Western Art Collector, and the book 200 Great Painting Ideas.
Sight size measures 15 x 13 with a framed size of 25.5 x 23.5 inches.
