73: ED DWIGHT (BORN KANSAS CITY, KS 1933) BRONZE SCULPTURE
The patinated bronze sculpture of Louis Armstrong is signed, dated and numbered 6/27 in the casting.
Ed Dwight was a USAF test pilot and early astronaut trainee during the Kennedy administration. According to the website TheHistoryMakers.org, his father, Ed Dwight, Sr., played second base for the Kansas City Monarchs in baseball's Negro League. Following his career in aeronautics, Ed Jr. earned an MFA in sculpture from the University of Denver. He has since completed dozens of sculptures and received numerous public commissions, including installations at The Folly Theater and Bluford Library, both in Kansas City. A weathervane for the Carriage House at the Kansas City Museum is a project currently in progress.
Measures 15.25 x 18 x 7.5 inches without the base.
Very good condition throughout, no damage, repair or wear.
