A 19th century oil on wood panel, portrait of a young man with red scarf, likeness of Auguste Feuardent, unsigned. Panel measures 5.5 x 4.5 and the frame 16 x 15 inches.

Provenance: The collection of Lucille Ross Hiatt of Palm Beach, Florida beginning circa 1940 at which time the work was accompanied by a letter from art dealer Samuel P. Avery Jr. in 1895 discussing the origin and subject of the work, also a letter in French dated 1875 and attributed to the artist's son. The painting "accompanied by certification" is listed on Ms. Hiatt's estate appraisal conducted by TROSBY Inc, Palm Springs in 1976. From there through the family to Lucille Ross Hiatt's son Henry Pierce and to his son Robert, the current owner. Trosby Galleries was an auction house that operated out of Palm Beach, FL, and Atlantic City, NJ, between the 1950's and 1980's. The original letters from Avery and others accompany this lot along with a photostat copy of the notarized estate appraisal dated the 1st day of April, 1976.
Very good condition. No issues of damage, repair or inpainting found under natural light or UV light.
