158: A 19TH CENTURY LOUIS XVI STYLE MARQUETRY CABINET

Rectangular marble top with waterleaf brass-mounted edge, over conforming shallow breakfront case, frieze fitted with a secret release top drawer centered by a mask of Apollo flanked by sphinx and laurel swags framed by paneled banding; a central cupboard door with inlaid marquetry of ribboned floral basket flanked by two paneled bookmatched cupboard doors trimmed in bronze with finely chased gilt caryatid pilasters on square tapering foliate columns, the whole raised on twisted fluted legs terminating in brass caps. Measures 44 x 46 x 18 inches. This lot was originally offered without reserve in our July 8, 2016 auction. The buyer, a Manhattan auction house owner and television show furniture appraiser, never paid for his purchases. As a result, this property from the Joseph Candioto Trust is being offered again without reserve.
Very good original condition free from major damage, repair, replacements or heavy wear. Minor marble chip front left side, a small marble repair back right corner, wear below the doors inside their opening.
