The artist Wayne DuQuoin was a painter, watercolorist, graphic artist, and commercial artist born in Greenview, Illinois. His early interest in art was inspired by his father, a house painter and interior decorator. After high school, he worked as a commercial designer in Cheyenne, Wyoming, before moving to Kansas City in 1940. He graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in commercial design. In Kansas City, he met his wife, the sculptor-ceramicist Eleanor DuQuoin, and they married in 1943. After graduating, both were hired as instructors at KCAI. Over his 22-year tenure at the Kansas City Art Institute, DuQuoin taught commercial, advertising, and graphic design, and he eventually became the head of the Design Department.
In the later decades of his life, DuQuoin and his wife moved to Lawrence, Kansas, where they both taught at the University of Kansas.
