Estate Auction at Historic Oakwood 1834
Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25 • 10 a.m. Both Days
101 Leonard Avenue in Fayette, Missouri 65248
We are proud to present to you the estate collection of Jasper and Elizabeth Meals at public auction. Mr. and Mrs. Meals both lived well into their 90s and enjoyed the blessing of staying at their beloved home Oakwood for all of their days.
With their passing comes the increasingly rare opportunity for a historically significant on-site auction replete with both items original to the premises and many, many others gathered by Mr. and Mrs. Meals from similar settings around Howard County.
Oakwood, the Abiel Leonard House, built in 1834 is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places for good reason. As one of the earliest surviving brick I houses in mid-Missouri, it sits high on a hill overlooking the town of Fayette and is complimented by a smoke house with matching brick openwork, two domestic help cottages of the period, the original matching brick beehive cellar, an ice house and a large wood barn. After forty years of care by Jasper and Elizabeth, the home and grounds are beautiful as are the Furnishings, Art and Antiques which must now be sold. This will be a large and unusual offering. Make plans now to attend!
